A Taste of the Highlands
A Butcher’s Boy in “Little Scotland”
Our story begins not in a boardroom, but on the bustling streets of Kearny, New Jersey, a town that was the heart of Scottish life in America. In the 1950s, brothers William and Frank Cameron opened Cameron's Market, a humble butcher shop that quickly became a cornerstone for thousands of Scottish immigrants craving the familiar tastes of their homeland.
In 1969, a teenager named Ian McAndrew, fresh off the boat from Scotland, walked through those doors. He wasn't just looking for a job; he was looking for a connection to the world he'd left behind. The Cameron brothers hired him, and under their guidance, Ian learned more than just the art of butchery. He learned the time-honored recipes, the importance of quality, and the profound role food plays in keeping a culture alive.
For thirteen years, Ian honed his craft, embracing the heritage behind every savory meat pie and perfectly seasoned sausage. He wasn't just an employee; he was the keeper of a legacy.
Passing the Torch
In 1982, Ian McAndrew made the Cameron brothers an offer they couldn't refuse and bought the market that had become his life's work. It was more than a business transaction; it was a promise to carry the torch forward. Ian raised his three children within those walls, teaching them the same traditions he had learned decades before.
For Ian, quality wasn't a buzzword. It meant using simple, honest ingredients. It meant preparing food with patience, skill, and pride. Whether it's the crispy, golden shell of our famous Meat Pies or the savory filling of our handmade Sausage Rolls, every product we make is a direct link to the culinary traditions of Scotland.
